I have an MSI 890GX-G65 motherboard that is AMD-based with a phenom II 955 processor but I'm wondering whether or not it's better or more beneficial to buy a 5830ATI card or a 460GTX? Does it matter at all or are the cards only to be judged on individual merit? And in any case, which of the two cards do you recommend (~$220 budget)? Thanks for the advice people.
Both AMD and Nvidia card will work fine on an AMD chipset.
Between GTX 460 and 5830,definitely go with GTX 460,its faster in almost all games http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-460-gf1...
"But even there AMD doesn’t run away with an uncontested win. The 5830 takes victories in Crysis and Aliens vs. Predator, but is otherwise bested by the GeForce GTX 460 1 GB. Good thing it’s generally cheaper and comes equipped with AMD’s Eyefinity multi-display technology—that’s enough to keep these two cards competitive. "
