I plan to buy a new desktop prior the day I transfer to my new university (off campus). I'm not really sure what the the best system I can get from $1000 ;)

Approximate Purchase Date: Early 2011 (January - March)

Budget Range: $800 - $1000

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming - Video Editing

Parts Not Required: Keyboard - Mouse - OS

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com

Country of Origin: USA

Parts Preferences: I prefer Intel based over AMD

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe (I dont really understand this part, please explain it to me if you are free ^^! really appreciated)

Monitor Resolution: >= 1440x900

Additional Comments: not really, but keep the CPU quiet a little bit should be better.
Please recommend me a system which will allow me to upgrade it in the future (ex : I may increase the RAM later).

Thank you

first off WAIT FOR SB!!! unless this is required to be NOW, you said above jan-march....

if you ARE set on buying then....
MOBO: unknown
MSI 880GM-E43 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130293 ~ 79.99

Video Card: unknown
HD 6850 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161348&cm_re=6850-_-14-161-348-_-Product ~ 199.99.... sorry it is 41$ over... =/ But the 6000 series scale nicely, so you can always add another one....

overclocking
It is running a CPU/GPU at a speed higher then the manufacture set as "stock".... basically it is making your computer move faster... it does shorten the lifespan, but by the time it matters you are thinking of a new computer. It lets you...

Early 2011 (January - March)
Wait for Sandy Bridge to launch on January 5th....
I'd invest on a good 1080P monitor... this is a good one, plus it is cheap(for 1080P) ASUS VH236H monitor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236059&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-RSSDailyDeals-_-na-_-na&AID=10521304&PID=3463938&SID= ~ 189.99

Gaming - Video Editing
If you are set on buying NOW, then get AMD 1090T X6.... 6 cores are better for rendering...

Overclocking: Maybe
You'll do it eventually... lol... most people do.... =p get a good after market cooler, like the Hyper 212 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065 ~ 30$

wait for Sandy bridge!!! =p

You have to wait till mid January for new Intel 35nm CPU's and some GPU's dat r also coming up from AMD so figuring ur build right now is a waste of time.
Not really... I would figure out the stuff now.... so you have at least a SMALL framework figured out for the system...

If he figures out right now and the prices fluctuate by Jan which i am sure will drop down then he have to opt for better components for dat price. so it doesn't make any sense to look for components now when we r sure they might get out of stock or get replaced by better ones etc.

hope i got my point clear.

RAM, case, PSU, monitor, HDD... all things that don't matter for now til january....

I may decide to buy it in early Jan so can you give me some advices for which components I can get with that price ?
sure =D

I'd buy my HDD, Monitor, PSU case all before January, just cause of Cyber monday =p

Spinpoint F3, you may need to look for combos... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185&cm_re=spintpoint_F3-_-22-152-185-_-Product ~ 69.99

personally the Antec 300 is a good case.... Antec 300 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129066 ~ 69.99

G.skill ram! G.skill 4 gigs http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231278&cm_re=G.skill-_-20-231-278-_-Product ~ 77.99

PSU, it is your choice, you can probably get away with as small as 650, just make sure it is certified.... Bronze or higher.... I'd get the 750 Watt Antec Earthware...

Monitor, look above for my recommendation...

Is there anything I still need to buy besides all the components I listed up there?

It is running a CPU/GPU at a speed higher then the manufacture set as "stock".... basically it is making your computer move faster... it does shorten the lifespan, but by the time it matters you are thinking of a new computer. It lets you get a bit more speed out of your system.... also, it changes your "clockrate" like the 1090T is @ 3.2GHZ.... soo an unaggressive OC would be to 3.6.... an aggressive...... 4.0ghz or higher... Just take it slow and watch your temps.... Edit: try getting PC wizard 2010 and Speccy (both FREE!!!! =D can't beat that with a stick!)
good monitor without speaker
no such thing exists, sadly..... lol.... just don't use the speakers...
5.1 set of speaker
Logitech has a nice set for 100$..... I think Bestbuy carries them, but I can't find the link.... ever....
