Hi guys and ladies
My little brother Mr.Cheapo wants to play the Civilization V demo on his PC but his 2400 was below minimum requirements, I know that the 8400 should be able to handle it but for other games I'm not so sure.
His current PC
CPU: Intel E4300
RAM: 4GB DDR2-800
Video Card: Radeon HD 2400 XT
OS: Vista Home Premium

I do not believe either would play this game. The 8400 is low end of a 4 generation old card... 8000,9000,200,400 ... If you don't own it do not buy the 8400. I have found a good card for most things is the 9600gt or 240gt if you are going cheap and can still do most games.. Others will give you ATI suggestions I have just mostly dealt with Nvidia. The 9600gt can be found on ebay for around $40 I just looked.

Ok looked up the specs for low end
256 MB ATI HD2600 XT or better, 256 MB nVidia 7900 GS or better.
Ok understand these are the low end meaning low res and posibly not smooth gameplay.

Recomended are
512 MB ATI 4800 series or better, 512 MB nVidia 9800 series or better
I would pick in the recomended area the 9600 being min I would get and 9800gt or gtx being what you want but prob waaay out of prince range.. Well happy hunting :)

I kow that except that Mr. Cheapo doesn't feel like investing in anything else on Micro Center(only way to buy cards for me). Personally I have a 9400 and would have let Mr.Cheapo use my PC to play but I have a Pentium D so can't play the demo anyway.

Ok well I am going to tell you this WILL NOT PLAY THE GAME... period ever don't do it. And your pent d will play the game you would be suprised as long as its not a low end under 2.8 or so. I see people gaming on 2.8 p4 computers all the time put a deceant vid card in there... It is reaching the end of useful but still got a year or so left. The requirments just state dual core so it should run.. unless you have tried it... What is your video card?

I used to own a 8400gs and it was crap but it was fun flashing it and nuking the shader clocks to 1.8ghz and still going lol how choppy it was when running physx even through there were two 9800gt in sli to do the rendering. Don't buy it but get something else like a cheap 2600xt or a cheap if lucky a used 3850/4650. The very last but most desperate card you could try for is a used 7900gs or gt as they are like $20-30 a pop.

The requirements are Intel Core 2 1.8 Ghz and i would agree with 2k, however I will give it a shot anyway since I have a Steam account and the demos free.
