Hey Guys,
Standard Budget Gaming Thread no. 1'000'000 here. Just wanted to get a check on this build for a computer. Needs to last through the dark depressive uni years (about 3-4 years). Playing MMOs (eg WoW) and some Steam games. May consider some FPS in the future, moving into the godly realms of PC Gaming. Just wanna make sure I'm getting the best bang for my buck. So here's what I've come up with so far:

AMD Athlon II X3 445 3.1 GHz - Socket AM3 1.5 MB Cache Retail Box Processor
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/235421
£54.96

ASRock AM3 M3A770DE/A/ASR Motherboard Socket S/L 5200MT/S
http://www.amazon.co.uk/ASRock-M3A770DE-Motherboard-Socket-5200MT/dp/B002LFYYAY
£47.62

MSI GeForce GTX 460 Cyclone 768MB Graphics Card
http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/Other+products/MSI+GeForce+GTX+460+Cyclone+768MB+Graphics+Card+?productId=40948
£115.14

Samsung SpinPoint F3 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-081-SA
£31.98

Lite-On IHAS324-32 24x Internal DVDRW Black Retail SATA
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Liteon-IHAS324-32-Internal-DVDRW-Retail/dp/B002B43GLS
£16.79

Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10600C9 1333Mhz Dual Channel Kit
http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Memory/DDR3/DDR3+1333+%28PC3-10666%29/Corsair+XMS3+4GB+%282x2GB%29+DDR3+PC3-10600C9+1333Mhz+Dual+Channel+Kit+?productId=37150
£52.29

Corsair Builder Series CMPSU-500CXUK 500W Power Supply
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/500w-corsair-cmpsu-500cxuk-builder-series-80-eff-120mm-fan-single-rail-atx
£46.94

Casecom 6788 Black Mid Tower Case
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/172779
£28.99

TOTAL=£394.71 (No P&P where applicable)

So basically looking for any swap outs or recommendations on this. Can't stretch the budget too far as still have to factor in a copy of windows, monitor, and a mouse and keyboard, because I'm currently on a laptop.

Thanks a bunch,
Stephen

Your build would work just fine on a 450W PSU, i know Corsair do one in their CX range that should be a bit cheaper than that current one of yours.

Try this for the GPU: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/768 [...] -dvi-mhdmi

HDD: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/500 [...] ache-89-ms

Mobo: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/gig [...] -micro-atx

This case is £2 more than your current one, but a lot better: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/coo [...] se-w-o-psu

Thanks for the reply. Is there much advantage of moving to a mATX board/tower.
Would it run much differently (temperatures, etc)?

See if u can afford this board http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/asu [...] d-matx-vga its from AMD 880G chipset and is a lot better and newer then the ones u guys selected. Also buy at least a 450w PSU no below then that, 400w will be on the edge so better be safe, will help in longer run.

That's quite a lot more than my current board. Is it worth the extra money in this build? Again, why the mATX choice?

And Yeah, I thought 400W sounded a little low, especially if I ever planned upgrades in the future.

Thanks.
