This is going to be my first try at building a complete system. I have switched out components and such, but I'm no expert. I'm a gamer, but I tend to only play games on the computer that I can't get for PS3 (i.e. that I can't rent), particularly strategy games like Civ 5. This is what I'm considering:

CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103808

Mobo: ASUS M4A78T-E AM3 AMD 790GX
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131366

Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277

PS: XFX P1-650X-CAH9 650W
Graphics: XFX HD-577XX-ZMF3 Radeon HD 5770
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.553637

HD: Seagate Barracuda 500 GB 7200RPM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148395

Case: Antec Three Hundred
DVD: Sony Optiarc
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.542807

All told after rebates, instant/combo savings, and Win 7 ~$610 at Newegg (at least until 11/30). What do folks think? Will it all work together, like I *hope* it will? Are there any better options for a similar price? Thanks!

Yes, everything is compatible. You need a heat sink if you are going to overclock, otherwise find another CPU that is not a Black Edition. BE chips have an unlocked multiplier and charge a premium for that priviledge. This chiller is on sale cheap and is pretty decent: COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus

I am an advocate for getting the best case possible - it is the one componenet that does not wear out, and can be used from build to build. Consider this COOLER MASTER Storm Scout that is only $10 more and is a much better case: better cable management, more fans, cut out for CPU cooler, black interior.

It's Tuesday, dsaddons, but you are right, the Scout at $50 is likely to get sold out soon, or Newegg can pull the sale at any time. The Hyper N520 is not as effecient as the Hyper 212+, so you will be more limited in what you can do to your machine. It will still give you the ability to do an everyday stable overclock. Besides, Newegg tacked on an $8 shipping charge, which makes the Hyper 212+ less of a steal.

Tiger's deals are subject to selling out too. I traveled almost 40 miles to one of their new locations only to get a measly keyboard. My bad, though: should have ordered COD for store pickup on-line first. Live and learn.

I'm on the west coast of the United States so at the time of my post it was monday. I just checked and the storm scout deal is still currently available, but since ejphillips737 hasnt given a response yet so we dont know what the situation is on parts as of now.
