Hello everyone.

First time poster here. Appreciate these forums as they help noobs like me explore various options for building a PC.

Approximate Purchase Date: Within the next 2-3 weeks

Budget Range: I'd like to stay under 800.

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Mostly gaming. I'll be doing most of my school work on my laptop.

Parts Not Required: I do not need windows 7, a keyboard, mouse, monitor, or speakers.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: I'd prefer to get parts locally, so Memory Express (www.memoryexpress.com)

Country of Origin: Canada

Parts Preferences: by brand or type: No preference

Overclocking: I'd prefer not to.

SLI or Crossfire: Don't know what this is

Monitor Resolution: 1680x1050 x2 (I'll be dual screening two 20" wide screen monitors)

Additional Comments: All I ask is that it doesn't sound like I have a idling car inside my room. I got rid of my last desktop because it was awfully noisy.

Thanks again guys. I really do appreciate the help.

Hmm I could quite possibly wait until Jan 5th. My plan was to wait until finals were over, and buy the parts on boxing day. The possibility that all parts will be on sale is likely, but at least I will be saving some money.

Can you buy off of newegg/tigerdirect? I got my i7 with 21.5" mon for about $800. I went with 870 and not the 1136. Cheaper but now its a glass ceiling and I'll have to change the mother coard which is ok because it didn't have USB 3.0. I have only 1 gtx 260 run all my games on max setting without a problem and my cpu is cool. I can hear it but not too loud. If music is playing softly never hear it.

Yeah I can buy off the two of those. I trust both of those websites, especially newegg. I've ordered off them before. What are the specs and parts that you recommend? It'll probably drop below 800 because I don't need a monitor.

This is similar to my build and after mail-in-rebates will drop below 800. I'm adding an ssd soon. This gives 3.0 and 6gb/s sata with 2 4gb ram for future upgrade. The video card is the last stop before it sky rockets but I'm sure you are on a budget which is the theme for all of this... the next upgrade is very expensive. I heard all future intel chips will be 1136 which will limit upgrades. But adding an i7 1136 mold will add over 150 bucks. Take it what you will I have only built a couple comps and no expert but I love mine and can run most games at high settings and encode video very fast.
