I am getting a i7 980x CPU. I need some help getting a new motherboard.

I currently have a Crosshair IV Formula.

Firstly would a i7 980x work with mu current motherboard?

Secondly I'm getting 2 MSI GTX 570's to run in SLI, I'm pretty sure that the IV only allows CrossfireX.

What motherboard would be best? I suppose my budget would be anything up to £300

Thanks

Luke

Welcome to Tom's Forum! :)

The ASUS Crosshair IV Formula is an AMD AM3 socket, whereas the i7-980X is an Intel LGA 1366 so no it won't work and don't even try it.

I would recommend the NEW Gigabyte LGA 1366 / X58 MOBO's equipped with the Marvell 918X chipsest -> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007627%2050001314%20600007887&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&CompareItemList=280%7C13-128-481%5E13-128-481-TS%2C13-128-471%5E13-128-471-TS%2C13-128-497%5E13-128-497-TS%2C13-128-472%5E13-128-472-TS

I noted your 'SSD' post, sure use the SSD for the {OS, Apps and Working Data} and the HDD {Data}. The Marvell 918X will not bottleneck the ultra fast SSD's whereas the Marvell 912X will limit you to 360MB/s~380MB/s SSD's. Change the Default locations of {Documents, Photos, Music, Video, etc} to the HDD; see -> http://headstrongfarm.hubpages.com/hub/Windows-7_-_Moving_My_Documents ALL of my PC's are 120GB SSD + RAID 1 HDD and it woks perfectly fine and transparent.
