When do you really upgrade?

my PC is now 3 years old, so time "tells" me it's time for any upgrade. however, i OC'd my e6750 last year to 3.4 and upgraded to a radeon hd 5770 and i get a 3dmark06 score just shy of 15k, plus i can play bfbc2 with medium settings and almost 0 lag and it looks great. i think with an upgrade i would get better games and graphics, and especially so because i'm getting a little bored with bfbc2.

nevertheless i guess my question is how do you or how would you gauge when an upgrade is necessary or just when a good time for an upgrade is? in my mind i'm thinking when i can double my 3dmark score with a mild OC on a new chip, i should upgrade. however, that might be a while. thoughts?

If you can overclock then go ahead.
The time to upgrade is when you want to, look for special offers or wait for new components to be released. The HD5770 holds up pretty well in the current market...
