Hello,

Okay so I'm looking to build my own gaming desktop (obviously) but I'm kind of computer tech illiterate so I have no idea what I need. I was initially looking at this desktop to purchase but it has since gone out of stock. It was $699. I'm looking to build something that is equal to or better than it for the same price.

Here's the desktop: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227291

I don't know what other info you need, but this is the monitor I purchased:

A friend of mine suggested these parts.
Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119233&Tpk=haf%20912

PSU:

Sorry perhaps I didn't state what I meant clearly.

I was originally going to purchase that desktop. But since it says it is out of stock I decided I would like to try building a desktop that is just as good or better for the same price.

Well this build is better then the one you showed about 3 times:

http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/4526/40561674.jpg

with this case Cooler Master RC-912
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119233

The total would be: $694.93

or with this case Antec Three Hundred
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129066

The total would be: $704.93

I would suggest you looking at the feedback on the cases and then decide which one you want.

They both good cases for their price.... I would suggest the antec 300 but you might lke the 912 more...

Hope this helps... :D

Edit: sorry i forgot to include an optical drive.

here is one for 21 bucks with lighscribe:
LG Black 24X DVD+R http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136178&cm_re=lg_24x-_-27-136-178-_-Product

I can give some more good points about that built if you want....

It's capable of 2-way crossfire and has new features such as USB 3 and SATA 6 Gb/s.

These are good for the future upgrade paths....

The graphics card is also really good and new... it can max out all of the current games...

The CPU is black edition and has 4 cores... also is very nicely overclokable... but you would need some aftermarket cooler for about $50 somit like H50...

^someone wants a BA. :p

Gross.. You can get the same performance with air cooling. I'd suggest getting the SCMG-2100 for $40 and free shipping off newegg.
Or for mild OC hyper 212+ $15 after MIR.

Okay so here is the update. After talking about your build with some internet buddies who are far more adept at this stuff than I am, this is what I was told to tell you:

I won't OC/Crossfire/SLI and I'm not going to be playing games like Crysis or anything. More like League of Legends and Star Wars the Old Republic when it comes out.

This optical drive was suggested instead because that lightscribe feature seems pretty useless for me. I'll just be using a disc drive for installing things and running games.

They were also suggesting a higher wattage PSU. This one was thrown out as a suggestion:

Another concern was CPU because I will be doing some sound editing? Anyone know how intensive that is?

Okay... I think I got it all right. :na:

Well the DVD drive isn't a big deal.

And if you not going to OC/Crossfire/SLI then there is no need for higher wattage PSU. Even 500W high quality PSU would be enough to run this rig.

For sound editing there is no need for better CPU. The AMD phenom ii x 4 955 BE is more then enough.

Does that look okay? I used a combo with a 460 1gb since it comes out to the same price as that PSU with a 6850. Other than that it's essentially what everyone else has suggested. Did I forget anything?

Yes i know you can, but most of the air coolers can block 2 of the RAM slots.

But the water coolers don't, that's why i think it's better to pay $10 more for the water cooler.

They only leak if it comes in part by part for you to put it together.

And not only tall rams.

As some one had a problem with g.skill Ram just like the one i have suggested in the built.

But i would say it's just the persons view on these coolers anyway ;)

I looked this cooler up, and it looks like some pretty decent and quiet cooler

Thanks for telling me about this good cooler. :)

Mushkin Blackline also fit underneath a Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme (in the top 10 of FrostyTech's heatsinks).

OP, both of the last two builds above look good. A Phenom II X4 is about the best you're going to get at your budget. In theory, an X6 might be better for sound editing, but the cheapest one is $35 more than the X4. The 1075T is probably the one you want, but it's $55 more.

If shopping today, this is the cheapest DVD burner after accounting for shipping.
