Hi Guys , I was About to Grab Phenom 965 BE but , its Just Got Out OF STOCK , now i can Buy Cheaper Phenom 955 ! They DIDnt Say its Black Edition , but they Said its Pure Quad Core !

Questions:

1.Should I wait For 965 to be Restocked or Just Grab 955 ?
2.Will 955 have Locked Cores ? even Non Black Edition ?

Because as They Said , its Not Exactly Balck Edition , BUT ITS QUAD CORE & HAS Nothing to BE Locked !

IS it True ?

I should say that I am Geting 6870 Twin Frzor , wont this CPU bottleneck my VGA ? will it Run as REAL QUAD CORE ?

Anyway , will non Balck Edition work as Same as those 2 ? because ANANDTECH didnt say that 955 is BE but 965 is BE , as in list !

PLEASE , i just wanna Know that , thats wall !

Don't waste your money on a non black edition processor

Bad answer!

Here's a PhII 945 quad at 14.5x250MHz -- 3.6GHz - 1.38v -- 44c .... with the IMC/NB at 2500MHz:

A PhII quad is a PhII quad is a PhII quad - except when it's a hex-core -- or the 840 Phenom Propus quad (don't know what AMD was thinking with that - LOL)

And the OP should consider the dual-BIOS (reference design) HD69502GB ...

That is not correct.

And there is no such thing as the """old" C2 955 HDZ955WFGBMBOX for $145""

The "M" means it is a 'C3' stepping

Problem is finding a board that actually likes overclocking via the fsb. 790FX and 890FX will be fine but i'm not sure the OP has a board like that.

Yeah .. but it pretty much comes down to temps. It take another +0.05v to +0.075v to get a similar clock on something other than the -FX.

Surprisingly, same thing with the C2 stepping and C3 stepping -- the C3s will clock a bit higher on slightly less volts.

That PhII 945 is a C2 and will go 3.8GHz+ -- I just didn't want to go 1.45v+ (still in spec, though) to get there.

And I'm going to pop a 1055T into that motherboard this evening. I sold it six months ago -- and replaced it with a new chip when I found out how good the EO-stepping 'CCBBE CB 1013 CPCW' chips are for OC'ing.

I'm still wiping the brown spot off my nose

955 and 965 are the SAME THING , amd just wanted people to get bragging rights, so they released the 965 which ONLY 200 mhz higher clock, you can get the same speed by raising the multiplier.

Lastly, I would not recommend you spending that much on the mobo as the new AM3+ processors and motherboards coming out this year, go for a cheap one then later upgrade to a AM3+ Mobo :D and after that go for a bulldozer chip :D!!

anyways, thats just my opinion, that rig will destroy anything in its path for current gaming....

Hope I helped,
Raz
