CD or DVD drive cant read or write media in windows xp

Hi i really hope someone can answer this for me!
From the first time i got it, it wasn't burning DVD's but it could read cd's and dvd's (it sould burn cd's & DVD's but it didn't)
ive only had it for a few months and now it won't read DVD's at all! (any type of DVD), but it will still read CD's , and when ever i put a blank disk in it caries on and works forever and eventuially I have to get it out. it is super multi ASUS drive. My operating system is windows xp.

You could try to troubleshoot, but I don't think it's worth the effort. Just get a new drive. They're only $20.
