Hello,
I want to build a P.C. for gaming for around $1000. After a rough couple of years I am starting fresh, I do not even have a monitor. I am out of the PC loop, any suggestions would be great. Thank you.

Approximate Purchase Date: Mid january

Budget Range: $1000

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming ( WoW, CoD blackops, SC2, things of that nature), Internet, Movies... and maybe a little photoshop

Parts Not Required:I need everything, but I should have access to a mouse and keyboard for the time being, so that does not need to be included.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg is prefered

Country of Origin: U.S.

Parts Preferences: by brand or type I am rather out of the loop when it comes to P.C.'s. I have not built one since the mid-late 90's. I have no preference, I am coming to you because I am sure you know much more about whats good than I do.

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire:Maybe

Monitor Resolution: I am really not too particular, I do not currently have a monitor.

Additional Comments: I just want a solid PC, that will do what I need it to do. I would like to not HAVE to upgrade for at least a year or two.

Thanks so much for everyones help. Please forgive my relative ignorance on this matter, I certainly plan on doing some research once I have some leads on what to look at.

Since you need everything, I included everything, even an OS. Some people will probably knock my system but I built it to last you around a year or so before needing to upgrade. The motherboard supports both Crossfire and SLI. It allows you to drop in another card down the road to increase performance if you choose. Overclocking headroom is definitely there if you choose to go that route but that would include the addition of an after-market cooler for around $40. Since you did not specify a monitor size, I choose 22" in order to keep the resolution down. This will allow your graphics card to hang in there a bit longer. Thats why I haven't upgraded mine yet.

Processor (plenty of overclocking headroom if you choose

Graphics Card
EVGA GTS 450 (Fine for 1680x1050 and will probably be on sale again and 2 will out-perform 1 GTX 460 by alot when you upgrade.)

Power Supply (Plenty of power from a great company)

Keyboard
Microsoft Comfort Curve

Mouse
Logitech MX 518

Total $1145.83 - $50 MIR = $1095.83

Its a bit over budget but you could save some money on the keyboard and mouse if you wanted to and $100 if you don't need an OS. The easiest places to trim some cost would be to buy a cheaper motherboard that isn't built for SLI saving you about $50. Don't buy the Blu-Ray Reader saving you $40-60 depending on if you want a second DVD drive. That will get you to $1000. If you search for combo deals, you could probably bring this down another $30-50 and use the extra cash to invest in a GTX 465 for around $160.

Just my 2 cents

Thanks so much Jedi! You have given me the information I need to get jump in head first, and get what I need out of a computer again. This looks like a good build, I'll let you know how it works out for me.

One thing I forgot to mention is Sandy Bridge. This is Intel's next processor lineup coming out in January about the time you said you would be building. Alot of people think it would be wise to wait until they start to come out and see performance numbers as well as what that might due to current pricing. If you can handle another couple of weeks wait, I would recommend it since we are so close to the launch.
