I was planning to swap my system;
previous system are as follows

Amd phenom ii x4 955 BE 3.2ghz (stock Cooling)
MSI 790gx-g65
3x2gb Kingston ddr3 1333 = 6gb
500 and 320gb WDC HDD sata
Odin 800 watts
ATI HD 5870 1gb

to

Core i7 920 2.6ghz(Corsair H50 cooling)
Intel DX58SO Extreme
2x1gb Kingston ddr3 1333 and 2gb kingston ddr3 1333 = 4gb
500gb WDC HDD sata
Odin 800 watts
ATI HD 5870 1gb

question:

1. Is it a smart swap? i just need to add 100$.

2.Performance wise, will my new system be faster than my old even it was reduced to 4gb?

3.This is my friends System, and he gave me assurance that all of his parts are in good condition. both our Systems will be a year old this coming january.

4.Is it worth it?

Thanks guys and God Bless

I'd say it's a good swap if you're wanting to go the Intel Way. Otherwise, I'd still stick to the Old rig, personally, I'm an AMD chap so, I'd not want to trade my 965BE for anything Intel has to offer , if it, prices itself in the same range, yeah, I'd give Intel a try, but not until then....

1_Although for $100 it may be worth it,IMO keep it because the performance difference isn't much
2_In CPU intensive tasks, you'll see a good boost in performance

I would keep the AMD rig also.

1.) They both are respectable systems. You MIGHT notice better performance with the Intel sysem.
2.) You are spending $100 then, ideally, need to bump the memory (triple channel kit?).
3.) That AM3 platform will allow for a processor upgrade down the road. LGA 1366 may not with SB being released...

If you are alright with spending $100, my suggestion would be for better cooling, overclock the 955 BE, and drop in another 4GB of memory. Then ask yourself which is the better system...
