Only recognizing VGA

Hello,
SYS specs: core2 duo 6700, Win 7, 4G ram, 450 watt psu, Radeon HD5570 vid card.
Have installed vid card but have to use dvi to VGA adaptor to get visual on monitor. Regognizes card in device mgr. but keeps insisting my monitor is analog (it is Samsung 941BW, LCD.) How can I get it to recognize my monitor correctly so I can run it digitally?

Call me stupid, but if you're having to adapt your DVI signal from the video card to a VGA, doesn't that mean your monitor is Analog?

If your monitor had a straight, end to end DVI or HDMI signal, then I could see otherwise, but....

if i hook it up on the dvi connector on my monitor it goes black.

Check your monitor. There may be a manual DVI/VGA switch.

No manual switch. I have a dvi to vga adapter going from dvi output of vid card to vga input of monitor. If I plg dvi out (on card) to dvi in (on monitor) the monitor goes black. I would really like to figure this out. Thank you.

Got it... I feel stupid. Was just that dvi plug not seated well enough!! duh!!
