what brand of 400w? and how old is it? It may need replacement.

We shoudl get 4 GB of ddr3-1333 ($50) for sure. a 1 TB HDD ($70), a DVD Burner ($17), and then a case, GPU, and possibly a PSU.

oh, what resolution is your monitor? That will help determine the GPU as well.

since you arent sure of the PSU brand, I'll assume you have a no-name cheap brand of PSU, and go ahead and replace it.

how much differnce is hd4850 from a gts450

Well the 4850 is probably on par with the 450, the 450 would be a better deal since it performs with new features such as tesselation and DX11. (new meaning it's improved from before) The 4850 is good as well but only has DX10 and isn't so great since in the future most games are using DX11 as we speak. IE BF:BC2 or Vietnam.

actually, the 450 performs just under a 4870, and better than a 4850.
