Hey guys,

Just wanted to grab your opinions :)

I work in IT and I'm only a kid - I'm better with the programming side of things, never really paid too much attention with hardware lol

One of buds at work gave me her sons "Leadtek px9600GT" graphics card (the 512mb one)
Her son isnt a heavy gamer, but will play cod/wow now and again, i dont think he's too fussed.... as long as he can play games/watch movies, he's fine with it lol

I need the following:

- RAM (most likely the DDR3 variety) maybe 2 x 2GB kingston sticks (4GB in total)
- a CPU (was looking at the i3-530)
- a motherboard (what do you think about a gigabyte ga-p55a-ud3? or a ga-h55m-usb3? i have no idea.... would definitely be open to advice here!!!!!)

Other than that I've got a coolermaster 460w PSU to run it off (bud supplied it for me), wd 500GB SATA HDD and a case (Aywun Game Series G03 black mid tower atx case).. lol

my budget is $400 (i'm rebuilding it for the womans son)

so what do you guys reckon?

- Buggg

niceeeee thanks so much :)

bugggggger about the psu.. i can't really afford to change it (it's not mine and it's brand new lol)

hopefully someone can point me in the right direction with the cpu&mobo :)

on another point, the board/ram the card came out of was olddd running 4GB of DDR2 RAM (um... does that RAM + the board being specified for the DDR2 RAM have any effect on the graphics card running DDR3?..) just asking :)

ohhh no all these options! :p

i never actually thought about going with AMD stuff... never really used it.. hmm?

those parts look pretty sweet! may have a look at those :)

just for a comparison.. anyone got an intel board i should look at?

An AMD system would be fine but you can afford an i5 so why not? This is under $400 shipped;

You seem to have everything else. If you need a wifi card and/or keyboard/mouse then get a cheaper motherboard. This combo would save over $50;

He is right that PSU isn't very good but it should handle a 9600GT.
