Question about Audio Controller

Forum Motherboards & Memory : Motherboards Question about Audio Controller

Greetings,

This is more a question about the motherboard audio codec than anything else, so I'm putting it here.

I'm using a Logitech S-220 speaker set (3.5mm) which is plugged in the motherboard I/O and a MXL Studio 1 Microphone (USB) which is plugged into the front panel I/O. I'm also using a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 webcam with microphone which could potentially be part of the issue as well. The motherboard is a GIGABYTE GA-880GA-UD3H which has a Realtek ALC892 7.1 audio controller.

Here are links to the items in anyone needs more info:

Webcam: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6826104074

Whenever I plug in the microphone, the speakers stop working. They come back automatically when the microphone is removed. I'd like to find the reason for this and find a way that I can have both items running at the same time.

My only thought thus far is that my microphone is somehow confusing the integrated audio controller and comes across as a speak connection, nulling the other speakers.

If this is the case, I suppose I'd have to buy a discrete sound card to run my speakers, so that they wouldn't conflict. I'd rather not have to buy anything else though.

Thanks

If you plug the microphone in, and go to the sound settings in Control Panel, what is selected as the output device? Can you change it to the Realtek output?
