Good graphic card?

I have a Biostar 9500 GT
Specs:

OUTPUT
•D-Sub
•HDMI
•HDTV

I want to get some games and my cousin said that i should upgrade my video card what type of card would recommend? Which is better ATI or Nvidia? Who makes good graphic cards? I was thinking about it but i do not know if it is nessecary
I have an
Asus p7p55d-e deluxe mb
corsair 750 Power supply
4 gigs of corsair xms ddr3 ram
windows 7 pro. 64 bit
500 gig western digital black hard drive
an i7 2.8 ghz. proccessor overclocked at 3.66 ghz
i was thinking about getting an
XFX GT240XZHFC GeForce GT 240 Video Card - 1024MB DDR5, PCI-Express 2.0
or
XFX Radeon HD 5750 Video Card - 1GB GDDR5, PCI-Express 2.0
or
XFX HD577AZNFC Radeon HD 5770 Video Card - 1GB GDDR5, PCI-Express 2.0,
or
XFX HD-577X-ZNFC Radeon HD 5770 1GB PCIe DDR5
what should i do?

Edit: I think I see the resolution you posted was the max your current video card can handle.

What is the resolution you are using?

Both Nvidia and ATI make good cards.
Between your choices,HD 5770 is the best and will give you a great boost in performance.

i was thinking about getting the new call of duty black ops or call of duty modern warfare 2

It can handle those game perfectly fine on that resolution.

Will the
XFX Radeon HD 5750 Video Card - 1GB GDDR5, PCI-Express 2.0
handle well at that resolution? i just do not want to get over kill

to OP
HD 5770 is not overkill for your resolution,its a perfect fit actually.HD 5750 is also good,but you have to lower some settings in some games in order to get a smooth FPS.

Between the OP's choices,HD 5750 and 5770 are more powerful than GT 240.

XFX, Asus, Evga,Gigabyte

Those 4 are the top.
