On these Optiplex 755 computers (we have a dozen or so), I noticed there are 2 sets of dimm slots - 2 ivory and 2 black. The preinstalled DIMMs were in the ivory banks. Does anyone know what the purpose of the other 2 DIMM slots is? Is it for different speed RAM?

Solution
Correct. The 2 colors specify the RAM channels. So if you are only using a pair of sticks put them in matching colors. Also if you are using different size sticks, keep matching pairs in matching colors.

If you are using 4 sticks, just populate them all.

I think I answered my own question - I think they are the same but they are colored that way so you will put them in pairs properly - 2 DIMMS use the ivory slots, 4 dimms use all 4 slots...
