I have a compaq with ddr 3 pc8500 RAM - while installing a new stick one of the pins in a contact socket broke off.
Any way of fixing it?

I am not even going to ask how you can break a ram slot when installing slot.

Well, you broke one ram slot right? Try using the other slots and see if it boots up.

If it does, then use the mobo until you save enough for a new one.

Be sure not hte break the new mobo again.

If it doesn't boot up, then you will still need a new mobo.

I don't think you can fit it unless you are exceptionally good.

I bought a 12.99 stick of RAM that had a burr on one of the contacts, I missed and it broke the pin.
Good you say?
I fixed it with a paper clip and super glue.
Straightened out the clip and dipped it in glue and stuck it in the little hole next to the pin stub which wedged the stub into the contact then cut the rest of the clip off with side cutters.
Boots up and the sys info shows both two gig sticks.
It is a permanent fix though as there is no way to remove the piece of clip.
But the mobo only supports 4 gig so it will last until the system is replaced.
