GT240 512MiB DDR5 vs GTS450 1GiB DDR5 with e6420@2.80Ghz

CPU: e6420@2.80Ghz
MB: Gigabyte 965P-DS3
RAM: 2GiB DDR2-800
PSU: Hec 450w

Question is, whether to go with the GT240 512MiB DDR5 or the GTS450 1GiB DDR5?
Main issues are with the PSU and the CPU - will it limit performance (even after the OC to 2.80Ghz)?

  1. Definitely go with GTS 450.Its significantly faster.
Bottleneck depends on the games/resolution that you play.
  2. Mostly starcraft 2.
Resolution will depend on fps at that resolution.
  3. Absolutely GTS450.
2.8GHz is quite good speed, if you aren't satisfied then you can OC it a little bit later...
  4. The GT240 would be very unlikely to meet whatever performance requirements you have, unless your resolution is low, like 1024x768.
Unfortunately, I would not trust a HEC "450W" PSU to power a GTS450. If your budget permits, replace your PSU. A quality, modern PSU has full range active PFC (no little voltage switch) and 80+ certification. Antec, Corsair, Seasonic, and Enermax are among the better brands.
If you do not have the option of replacing the PSU, then get a HD5670. It uses very little power, and will outperform a GT240.

A C2D @ 2.8GHz is fine for SC2,definitely go with GTS 450.Its much faster than GT 240 and well worth the extra cash.
But as jtt mentioned,Its better to upgrade your PSU to a better unit.
