Does 580M really clock at 3.33g

Hello,
I have a laptop with a 580M, which I was told clock to 3.33ghz. I tried to push the CPU at high speed. Something came hot with a full screen fast action film from internet. The speed sniffer never went over 2.67ghz.
How do I know that it is clocking at 3.33

3.33 is Turbo Boost. Stock is 2.66.

I knew about "turbo-boost", but how is it switched on ? I read about "if internal temp is appropriate etc". That's why I took-it from cold, to "something intensive", for it to get hot rapidely, and it did. But the speed sniffer stayed at 2.67. I have no indication that it will automatically switch to higher speed. Do I have to take "Intel" word for it!
They say that it will clock to 3.33g. But how do they know. Can I find out too ?

What "speed sniffer" are you using? Try CPU-Z.

Turbo boost will activate if not all cores are active and the load on 1 core on a 2 core machine or 1,2 or 3 cores on a 4 core machine are loaded high enough.

The cpu-z sniffer told me a few time mostly on start-up that the CPU went in high gear.

I have to believe intel once more

I have never heard of "cpu-z sniffer" but I have heard of CPU-Z. The program will only display the clockspeed on a single core at a time.
