  1. The i7 950 should work well with any number of x58 boards; I currently use biostar or msi; some prefer asus. Choose your ram carefully in threes. Microcenter ocassionally has the 950 for $199, if you live near one. If you want to save some money, the 955 phenom II is priced right but not as fast as the i7. It will work with your 4 sticks of ram. The gigabyte GA880-UD3H would be a great choice for features ($110 at newegg).
  2. if i ran my ram in 3x2 gb stick would that be ok?
  3. Yes. They should work, but you can check the board ram QVL. Most have listings for tested ram. Most 3x2 gb stuff works fine; it's the 3x4 gb sets that you have to check for compatability.
  4. Got ya yeah i see the 950 is 279 at newegg and that is wher ei need to buy my stuff from i have store credit there. but is the 950 better then any of the amds? out at this moment or not?
  5. I assume from the possible coolers you will be overclocking, I think you can overclock an i5 760 enough so it won't bottleneck a single 580.
  6. Yes the 950 (and 760) beat anything AMD has for gaming (AMD boards are much better value though).
  7. What i listed up there i allready have it was my sb setup i sent the 2500k and p67 back for refund going this route, see sadly my athlon 640 doesnt bottleneck the gtx 580 i dont know what people are talking about.
  8. If you already have an AMD board why not just get a 955BE and overclock to 3.8-4GHz
  9. Its in a diffrent setup. But the real question is for what i seem to do a 9850 be didnt seem any slower then my 2500k. lol mabye i dont need all this stuff. you see my specs up there all i need is a mobo and cpu to play games at 1920x1080p on my 23inch led mon at 60hz.
  10. at lower then 1920x1080p i have seen cpus bottleneck the gtx 580 but at 1920x1080 or more it seems they dont.
  11. You can get a 955BE for $140 and an OK board for under $60 if that all you need its better value than anything intel especially if you don't want sandy bridge.
  12. Yeah i have a extra msi nf750-g55 mobo laying around amd sli lol love it. but how much of a preformance diffrence does a i7-950 have over amd. Also its funny because my dad has a 9850 be,h50,8gb ddr2 ram,gtx 465. and he play fallout 3 and new vegas at max settings and it doesnt lag. makes me wonder about thinks they said the new phenoms were much better then the first i agree but the 9850 is a soild cpu. it out preforms any of the athlon 2 and lower phenom 2's

The i7 950 has a large performance bonus over any Phenom for sale at the moment but if you are gaming at 1920 x 1080 I think anything over a 955BE @ 3.8GHz + a 570 will give a noticeable increase in performance as you should b able to max out all games and get good FPS. I have a 550BE unlocked to 4 cores and overclocked to 3.7GHz + 2 x 512Mb Radeon 4870s in crossfire and I can play all the games I have at ultra settings at 1920x1080.
