Gpu fan plugged to mobo

is it possible to instead plug the gpu fan onto the mobo instead of being plugged on to the card itself? or are they totally different pins

More about plugged mobo
  1. It is a different style (size) connector.
  2. It will depend on the fan, I have my Zalman VF900's plugged into the motherboard so it is possible.

And what super advantage you will get by doing it??

i was thinking if it ran 100% speed it wouldnt burn down the gpu as fast as if it ran off the gpu going 100% speed all the time

Huh? 100% fan speed is the same regardless of where it's being powered from.
  5. i know i can run my fan 100% its just, if the fan run off gpu i would shorten the lifespan faster than if i powered the fan using my mobo

That makes no sense mate. :heink:
  7. Not really, a fan uses about 3W of power so the difference would be negligible.
  8. so with fan on 100% speed all the time and its running off gpu will not shorten its lifespan?

No, it's not where the power is drawn from it's the running at 100% that will shorten the life of the fan.
  10. i ment shorten the gpu life not fan
  11. no it will not

Then as Timop said, it uses so little power it won't matter to the life of the card and certainly won't shorten it at all.
  13. oh ok thanks guys
