Hello,

I am currently running one XFX 5850 Black Edition and I am debating on purchasing a second to run in cross fire. My question is for anyone who might have done the same, is it worth it? am i going to see any substantial gains ? also are there any set backs?

Or... should i ditch the 5850's all together and get one 5970?

Any and all advice is much appreciated.

System

Intel i7 920 2.67 GHz
Asus P6T
6GB Corsair Dominators
Corsair 850W PSU
XFX 5850 Black
Xonar Xense
Samsung Syncmaster P2450 24" Monitor
Windows 7

You may get better benchmark scores, but if all is satisfactory now, why spend the ~$310? If it were me, I'd save it for my next build or for the Black Friday sales.

actually i take that back... crysis with all settings on very high at 1920x1080 runs a bit sluggish when there is a fair amount of animation ... and it aggrevates me.. i dont want to take it off very high... would the cross fire solve this?

Should, but for any other game that 300 bucks would just be a waste. Unless you start getting 2+ Monitors all running 1080p. Just overclock that sucker... I have a friend with a 5850 and an i7 920 at 3.4sih Ghz and he can run Crysis with full everything without a glitch. I've seen him play it, and there isn't ANY lag... I would OC the I7 and the 5770.
