Given they are the same brand and speed (ie. DDR3 1600Mhz) then the difference is 4GB-3GB=1GB.

Can you be more specific with your question? Other than having 1 more GB of memory, I can only assume you are asking about 3GB in dual channel mode vs. 4GB in single channel mode. If that is correct, the difference in terms of performance is barely noticeable to most users (5-10%).
