Cd-rom driver for windows 7

my laptop can't read cd or vcd disk but dvd disk can read and write what is suppossibly the problem help me thanks

I didn't do anything except reformatting and it's the problem the dvd drive can't read cd/vcd only dvd disk can read but on the guest user account the cd/vcd can read it seems the drive having a split function dvd for main user and cd/vcd for guest user account is this normal for win7 OS....Thanks Roy from Manila Phil.

You can try deleting the upper and lower filters but after doing this you may need to reinstall any CD burning software. The instructions on how to do this are here.

Be very careful when doing this as there are a number of subkeys that look the same (but aren't) and deleting the wrong one can trash your installation of Windows. Set a restore point before editing the registry.
