I currently have an EVGA 9400GT bought it a few years ago due to the power supply in my prebuilt to only be 305 watts. Would buying the ASUS GT430 be an increase in performance? I also noticed that the GT 430s all run DDR3; should I wait and see if a GDDR5 version will be released?

as discussed previously, for the price, anyone buying a gt430 would be wasting their money. It is a POS. Get an ATI 5670 or even a gt240 would be faster. The PSU may even be enough to run an ati 5750. heres a link to the power draw of a range of cards http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-5770,2446...

there is a gt440 coming out with similar power usage of a 5670 and it probably has better performance aswell. saying that theres also the 6000 series, the 6670 should be around 5750 performance.

the GT440 is an OEM card so you would need to purchase a new PC with it or buy a few crates of them

GT 430 ddr3 only is much faster than a 9400 GT though may fall short to 240.Then also its worth a wait for ddr5,it may fetch @57gbps bandwidth.
