Sometimes, when im playing a game, the screen goes black for a few seconds, the sound stops, and then everything goes back to normal. Other times, I have to ctrl alt del out to windows. In the error log, im seeing constant video hardware errors (livekernel event 1033.) I'm suspecting theres something wrong with the GPU. Sometimes, it crashes so bad that I have to reboot the pc and one time I even got a BSOD caused by atimkdag. Everyone single time something like this happens, the error log shows this:
A problem with your video hardware caused Windows to stop working correctly.
Problem Event Name: LiveKernelEvent
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1
Locale ID: 1033
Extra information about the problem
OS Version: 6_1_7600
Service Pack: 0_0
Is the GPU defective? Can i do something to troubleshoot or should I just send it back?
I've had drivers cause my system to go black like you're describing, and then it'll recover, but it will usually have a little bubble in the corner (only visible if you're playing in Windowed mode) saying "xxxx driver has recovered from an error..." etc.
That, or it could also be a bad GPU.
I'd try doing a clean install of some older, more stable drivers (use Driversweeper from Guru3d to completely remove your current driver before installing any other drivers) and see if that works.
