Extra space needed?

I was wondering how much more space would be needed inside of a case if the cpu cooler is 6.25 inches tall. I have the Hyper 212+ cooler and AM3 socket Mobo and Im trying to find a case wide enough. I have been looking at cases at least 8 inches wide. Does this seem like enough or can I go smaller?

To be on the safe side I would stick with the 8" wide cases and pay attention to if there are side panel fans (usually 3/4") in the way.

You need about 8 inches for most coolers. A 9 inch wide case give you a bit more clearance.

I have an old crappy Delux case, its 7.5 inches wide and the side panel touches the Hyper 212+, make your conclusions. IMO it should be at least 9 inches wide so you would have space for a fan above the heatsink.

Hyper 212+ fits in the Antec 300 Cheap case, but works well.
