Dual Channel with 1 stick?

Solution
If all you have is a single DIMM then it will obviously only operate in single channel mode.

Dual channel operation requires at least one matched pair of DIMMs with one DIMM installed in Channel A and the other DIMM installed in Channel B.

Is it worth it to get a second 4GB stick to increase performance?

Unless you need the extra RAM or just have some money burning a hole in your pocket stick with what you have. Your not going to get any real noticable difference by adding another stick.

Only get a module with the exact same memory timings and voltage. Even then it's not guaranteed to work properly. A dual channel kit is the best way to go.

At most, dual channel will give you up to a 5% increase in memory performance.
