No really, i dont have the money needed in order to buy a proper good graphics card, but i want a gtx 580, or sli. I was told i can run left 4 dead on this grpahics card at over 500 FPS (imagine the quality of that) 500 fps using a gtx 580 on left 4 dead is far better than a gts 450 at around 80 fps.

I really want 500 fps on left for dead so it never lags.

But i cant spend mroe than 120 quid. In all honesty where can i buy one for 120 quid, and is anyone willing to let me buy one of their gtx 580's for 120 quid?

i really would like one.

First - your monitor wont show those `500 fps` , second - if your internet connection is bad you will still have lag. And srsly wtf ? :D  You dont have the money to buy `a proper good graphics card`so you want to buy the best gpu ? o.O [ignoring the 5970 and 6990, altough the gtx580 still beats them in some charts].

you dont say what your current card is, but for that budget, you can get a 5770 under a ton these days,
try ebuyer, scan.co.uk, and other uk sites
*Edit, in fact the best thing you can do on that system is more memory for now, and save for a newer rig asap

You might actually see worse quality with 500fps causing screen tearing. No monitor out today can keep up with that speed, there are a few 120fps monitors, but that is only for 3D otherwise their just 60hz(60fps). You would be extremely lucky to get a card at that price.

High fps won't stop ping issues. I can notice lag(not stuttering, like graphics lag) with even 20 ping in high movement situations. I do notice that vsync off seems to make things respond faster almost like the monitor is somewhat able to keep up with a higher fps than 60(in fact, I used to be able to put 75hz on this monitor until about a year or so ago when a driver update stopped that). There really isn't any difference between 500fps and 80fps unless you have a robotic eye.

is 60 fps good? is 60fps the same thing as 500 fps. can we not see past 60 fps.

Also you know on a monitor, it says 60 hz or 70 hz, is that the amount of fps it can handel?

if it seems that high fps tears the monitor or something. If my fps is like 80 or something, how can i get it down to 60 or loewr so it doesnt tear my monitor. I dont want to screw up my monitor from too high fps.

I think il stick with getting the gts 450 though.

Dude, Source is capped at 300FPS. You wont actually get 500FPS. I have a HD5870 and tested CS:S benchmark and got a constant 300FPS. You don't need a GTX580.

Hell I had a HD4870 when I played L4D a lot more and it was never laggy.

FPS- Frames per second
Hz- The rate of which the monitor fully changes the image per second. Basically it's the rate at which something is completed per second.

The tearing doesn't damage the monitor. It just means you will see artifacts(image tearing) of the old image, because the monitor is not able to keep up with all the data coming into it. So it will refresh the image before it's done erasing the old one, which will make it look worse than a lower fps.

ROFL
LMFAO

BTW can anybody give me a spare 980x and mobo they
are not using?

seriously OP
Sorry If I was mean

I am also on a very low budget
look on Craigslist if available
and shop for new system
Buying a used OEM system for cheap
is probably your best option
I put together a Core2Duo,2gb ram,250gb hard drive,hd4650
and asus dg soundcard for $75 USD
it is not the greatest system but it does everything I need it
to do pretty well

Is this a joke thread?

The OP says he doesn't have the money to buy a good graphics card, but he says he wants to buy the GTX580, which is the best single-core GPU on the market today which costs $500 USD.

Then he claims to want 500 fps...so is basically saying he wants to buy the best graphics card without even understanding how frame rates on monitors work...

:non:

Since this is a silly thread
Let me say this
I know the feeling
I would love a 990x with twin HD6990s watercooled
with SSDs in Raid O and 16gb of ram LOL
BUT
years ago I left being upper middle level management
(district manager-35 locations)
and now I dont even make half of what I used to make
I now work from home fixing and repairing computers
I can spend alot of time with my fiance and daughter
I do what I love with minimal stress
I have a paid off 10 year old station wagon I do the work on myself
I am all caught up on bills
saving up for house
cut up all credit cards and everything I own is paid for
My daughter doesnt lack for anything
she has a Wii,TV,DVD player,1 year old laptop,MP3/AVI video player
nice bike and goes to private school
we have money for small family vacations
My fiance is a coupon crazy shopper and I buy almost everything used
We scrimp and save for everything
I wouldnt trade it for the six figure salary, stupid suit and tie and 80 hour
week I used to have
It is all about priorities

Here is what we do today:
BUDGET: $500 $250: Biggest widescreen LCD you can find (HP 23 inch from Office Max for $240+tax)
$150: Some used computer from Craigslist with decent specs.  Talked the guy down from $300, because he needs to make rent. Make sure it has Vista, probably comes with speakers, keyboard, monitor, etc. $50: Buy some more
RAM BONUS!
If the computer you got from Craigslist came with anything like a monitor, printer, scanner, etc... sell it on Craigslist and buy more RAM (and maybe thecheap video card mentioned in this thread!
MAIN POINT: A big awesome screen is way more important than pure specs.

Are you mocking me again?

I AM THE CRAIGLIST KING
I CAN DO ANYTHING

lol im not going to reveal my age but im not a kid. Im just not very good with computers and everything. We all have experties, mine rely else where. But i have been learning about graphics cards, that 6990 looks nice, how much is it?

My friend said hes willing to sell me a gts 450 for 85 quid, its used though, but its 1 gb so it should be reallly fast.

Im getting either the amd athlon 645 (apparantly its really energy efficient) or the phenom 840 (apparntly this isnt bad either)

Im getting a hd monitor, i posted a thread about this in the pheriphirals section. I got i think like 1 reply or something.

Im not a troll, im a human, not green and slimy.

where can i get a replica shot gun and loud blanks? would be appreciated XD

Bluescreendeath, ok

lightsaber

co za asy

lol nice,

would you say xeon is better than the i7 9xxx
12 gb ram, nice
hwo come your using 667 mhz, why not 1333 mhz, is that not much better?

btw how big are all your 3 monitors, is it eye finity, what is the resolution seperate, and what is the resolution all together as eye finity?

well for the whole pc about 500 quid i would say, thats including monitor and keyboards and stuff, and speakers.

Thinking of getting the gts 450, and amd athlon ii x4 645. However prices may change so descisions will change. Mobo, i have no idea how to choose a mobo but im choosing one that meets my needs. Not buying a sound card, buyinga full hd bnq led monitor for 100 quid or so.

Could be that either one is a C2 stepping or C3 stepping, spec might not even be accurate since the naming itself is oddly confusing

Unless that one of them is OEM and another Retail, with cooler...

You need to make sure that your motherboard has enough juice to handle everything you fit on it, if you read motherboard reviews, you will see that even motherboards with same socket could produce more or less power than others, seriously, and I think that is a cheap mb,it gives you 8.1 chanels of audio, and in the future you can upgrade it, add another graphic card.I have spent about 150 quid when I bought mines, and still working as a charm.

yes I power 3 LCDs with it.

and what powers them?
a small nuclear fission reactor LOL

Nice setup
Why dont you let me visit and walk away from your tower for just
15 minutes or so :)

Beautiful rig
though you could heat a small room nicely with it

No no no, im gonna give this comptuer to my sister, il get a new motherboard and add an amd athlon x4 or an x2 or somthing and add 2 gb of ram and some crappy grahpics card and hook it all up.

The one i got now, yeah its really bad. lol, but it runs ok. I cant run chrome and firefox and word at the same time, ultra lag XD.

But yeah the new system will be

HD monitor led 22 inches
gts 450 may change my mind
probably an amd athlon x4 645 or may change mind and get 955 or 970 depending on prices
500 gb of hdd 32 mb cache
600 watt corasir psu or something (for overclocking)
dvd drive

etc...

may add some other bits like a sd area slot, wifi thing, tv tuner card etc...

good deal
that will be a solid build
one thing is the 1tb drives in the US
have dropped in price
if it isnt too much more in your country get the 1tb
barracudas are nice for the money

What i could do is i could partition and then use like 250 gb for myself and use the rest of the 750 as backup, what do you guys think?

Im thinking of dual booting with linux aswell. any advice?

i dual booted with Ubuntu
and it was cool
but when i wanted to go back to
a single win7 boot
it is a little tricky to remove the ubuntu
boot

and trust me you can never have enough
HD space

it is better to spend a lttle extra now for the
extra space

I am running with a 250gb that i got for free
and I had to add a 320gb and 200gb external usb's

i am saving up for a 1tb now

i would never use a partition as a backup since
if the HD fails then you lose both partitions
I like to use an external USB HD for backup
plus put pictures and documents on DVDs also

Quote:
you could just have 2 internal drives, or if you have a 3.5" external drive, you can just open it up and use it as an internal drive.

i am actually using a slimline case
so adding additional hard drives internally
is not a option

for now i have the 250gb internal
and a verbatim 320gb sata usb external
and then I had an old 200gb ide laying
around so I got an usb enclosure for 14.50 USD
and added that

so i have 770gb I paid a total of 64.50 usd for for

After my memory upgrade this week
I am then going for a 1tb since I have seen some
nice deals on Newegg lately

my piece of crap Dell
only supports two satas
i physically have room for one more
I have to get a low profile PCI sata card to add more
I was thinking of getting a multibay sata enclosure (two bays)
and getting the PCI RAID sata card and using the multibay
in Raid 0
but budget wise that is going to be about a year down the road
