Possible PSU issue and recommendations for replacement

Hi,

I bought a system a year ago and we've had intermittent errors with it from the first day. Having done some research on the company, it turns out that they have a terrible reputation for customer service and I can either pay to ship it back to them and then wait for months on end or fix it myself.

Problem:
System will reboot without warning. It can do this at any time, but you can usually force it to happen by doing something video-related, such as transcoding a DVD to DiVX, or watching something on a flash website.

Having had a browse on here I thought this might be heat related (I have the standard CPU cooling fan and the PSU has a fan but there is no case fan). Using Speedfan and OpenHardwareMonitor I checked the temps during video transcoding and the CPU temp notched up a bit before failing but only to around 50, which doesn't seem too bad. I also took the side panel off and ran a heavy fan at max speed but it still failed. I also bought an artic paste kit and replaced the thermal paste between the cooling fan/sink and the CPU with no effect.

So, I'm thinking it may be the PSU now. When I bought this the kit was delayed because they had difficulty sourcing the correct PSU. The one included is unbadged, it rattles a little and the instructions are minimal and badly translated, but I'm just working on a hunch - I don't know how to read the voltages on Open Hardware Monitor. I'll attach the report.

Going on the above, does anyone have any suggestions for further diagnosis and/or suggestions for a replacement PSU?

Oh also - I have checked the memory with memtest. You can also get it to fail by running the CPU tests in Prime95, but as I said the system runs okay if you don't put it under strain so maybe not cpu related?

I've been working away from home so have only just started looking at this.

From what you describe i would say it's a video driver issue and or memory related..
Is the onboard video disabled?
What version of CCC are you using?
Sometimes rolling back a version or two helps with stability.

Thanks for the reply. I've checked the ram with memtest - no problems there.

Also, I thought that streaming flash video uses the CPU (at least it does if you have hardware accelaration disabled, which I do). Also, running prime95 CPU tests cause reboot, which shouldn't depend on video card?

I'll check CCC version though. I seem to remember that the DVD the driver came with has a problem when installing on windows 7, so I have whatever drivers came pre-installed.

Trying to update CCC or even just the display drivers fails on this machine - get a message saying that windows have applied compatability settings but fails on subsequent runs too. FYI - running windows 7 64-bit.

Go to add/remove and dump whatever ATI software is there
Download Driversweeper
http://phyxion.net/item/driver-sweeper.html
Run DS in safemode
Check off AMD
Analyze and clean
Restart normal
Go to AMD and install latest CCC as ADMIN
