I'm pretty sure its a stupid question with an obvious answer but I need to know: I am running windows 7 professional 64-bit. When I look in the c: drive, I have "program files" and "program files(x86)". I looked around and x86 is a 32 bit thingy so does that mean that whatever I install into "program files(x86)" will be running in 32-bit mode? Should I install everything into the regular program files?

When you install software, the correct one of those directories will be selected based upon the platform for which the software was compiled. You should not override the choice of "program files" or "program files (x86)". The directory choice reveals, not causes, a program to be 32 or 64 bit.
