I saw that the Radeon HD 6870 "bart XT" GPU was released. How much more performance does this offer us over the HD 5870?

I heard it's only 10-15% faster. The huge performance boost won't be until the Northern Islands.

Are there any comparison benchmarks between these cards and the HD 5xxx series?

I was surprised by the price of these cards.

There a huge thread already dedicated to the 6800 series:
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/page-296901_33_1550.h...

And the HD 6870 is not faster than the HD 5870. Not sure who told you that. There are reviews on anandtech, tom's, and guru3d on the cards already.

So I didn't act too soon by buying my Two GIGABYTE HD 5870's in CF?

The large performance boost won't be until the 28nm Northern Islands in late 2011?

I'm guessing you don't plan on skimming through the 33 pages in that thread, so I'll just give you my opinions on your questions.

1. You probably did act too soon to buy two HD 5870s. There is a chance that the prices of those cards will drop, although no indications have been made by AMD, afaik. Also, the 6800s scales better than the 5800s in xfire. Based on the reviews, it even scales better than the SLI-king GTX 460 in some games.

2. Who knows what the Caymans will be like, really. There's a bunch of guesstimation and speculation, but nothing will be concrete until release, just like how the Barts were... kind of.

I doubt the rumors that the Northern Islands will be literally Twice as fast as the previous generation.

The HD 5xxx and the SI are almost identical in performance. Except the SI scale much better in CF, and use less energy.

The revolutionary GPU performance leap won't be until 2013 with Nvidia's "Maxwell" cards, which are said to have roughly 16 times the performance of the current Fermis.
