Hi there,

I've been struggling between these two motherboards all day.

Between an Asus P8Z68-v gen 3 vs p8p67 evo. The difference in price at my supplier is inconsequential.

I am planning to marry it to an Intel iCore5 2500k, a MSI NX560GTX Ti Hawk 1GB graphics card, Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB CAS 9-10-9-27 at 1866Mhz.

Mostly intending to use it to play computer games a la Starcraft II, Civ 5 and similar RTS / strategy, along with your fairly standard use for music, movies, day-to-day Microsoft Office suite stuff.

It will be brought in with some older Western Digital kit as regards HDD (250, 500, 500 capacity), and an older DVD/RW disk player.

Can anyone help me pick a champion between the two?

Thanks for your help!

If the same price, I'd go for the Asus P8Z68-v gen 3 .... tho I'd move up to the Pro version.

p67 evo has nf200 chip which run 2 gpu's at full speed like x16/x16 where as z68 vpro gen3 has pci-e 3.0 ready for upcomming gpu's but it run 2 gpu's at x8/x8 speed so there isn't a huge difference only 3 or 4% surely but anyway get the z68 vpro.

Thanks guys for the advice. I have to check the pricing, I think the pro was out of my price range as both these two were really at the top-end limit of the budget.

Thanks again for taking the time to look at this thread.

Yeah, here's kind of my price scale - I didn't really want to go over 150, but I suppose I could:

Pro - 164.
Vanilla - 145.
Evo - 133.

Dunno if that helps to narrow it down, I suppose the extra 14 above my limit won't kill me, but will I notice the difference if I go for the Vanilla or the Evo?

no difference between evo & vanilla.

With that pricing would you still go with 1st Pro, 2nd Evo, and 3rd Vanilla as sort of your product preference order?

you will be alot happy with pro.

Indeed! At least that kills one debate :)  - I think the rig is ready, now need to see whether it's strategic to take advantage of a 6% off on motherboards now, or wait until after Christmas for the Christmas sales.

Anyway, thanks for the steer!

it's up to you but i told you getting pro is much better.

Indeed :)  leave the buying strategy to me!

At least, that line is a definite Pro ticked off.

Thanks again pro-gamer.
