Only using power supply for pcie connections?

Hey there all,

Is there any way to have a power supply only give power to pcie connections? As in not having it connected to a mobo or other components. Currently trying to do so and the power supply I'm trying to do it with (corsair ax1200) Doesn't even turn on when I only have it connected to a graphics card.

The psu needs a signal from the motherboard in order to start, or you need to trick it into thinking it's hooked up to an MB by jumping the green wire on the 24 pin main connector with any of the black wire's.

I know next to nothing about circuitry. Specifically, by jumping, you mean just running a wire from the end of the psu's green wire on the mobo cable to another connector on that same cable?

I'd have gone with a 10 dollar PSU tester to avoid the exposed jump, but, this does work!
