Hello,
I'm on the market for a new computer for HD video editing as my old one can not cope and is well past upgrading. I'm far from an expert but have a budget of $1200 NZD roughly, an am buying from a site which is simillar to ebay. Apart from needing at least 8gb ram an at least a 1tb HD I'm open to suggestions (also no integrated graphics). Thanks for the help the site is here: http://www.trademe.co.nz/mcat-0002-4715-4717-/page-6/so...

I'd avoid an ebay-like site and order from an actual retailer. It makes warranty issues a lot smoother if you end up with a bad part. Some manufacturers will consider the auction-bought parts as second hand.

that said, here's my rough suggestion:

AMD Phenom II X6 1075t
AS Rock 870 Extreme 3 motherboard
8 GB DDR3-1600 RAM
HD 6850
80-120GB SSD using sandforce controller (Mushkin, G.Skill, OCZ)
Samsung Spinpoint f4 2 TB 5400 RPM HD as a storage drive
blue ray burner.
case with at least 2 120mm fans
450-600W PSU from reliable company
