ok here's the deal i have been having problems running call of Juarez and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. all of them ones i have an ATI RADEON X1950 pro graphics card i have tried from 8.2 driver up to 9.3 it keeps causing this checkerboard pattern when it runs it will run for about 30-60 seconds then it will do that and if i don't exit quick enough it will freeze forcing a hard reset my specs are

CPU intel pentium e2160 dual core 1.80GHz
core speed 1197.1 MHz
memory size for my graphics card is 256mb
please help i'm about to break this card and can't afford a new one.

Sounds like the card is artifacting and needs to be replaced. Better start saving now.

Its possible that its having heat issues. Make sure you clean the heatsing/fan. If that doesn't fix it you can try lowering the CPU and GPU speeds.

You can also try 9.11 vista 32 driver but that is the end of the line for non DX10 and DX11 ATI cards. I got a x1900xt and 9.3 worked with no issues.

my temps run at about 54 max so they are good i looked around and found out that windows hot-fix update might have been the culprit so i uninstalled it the fix was KB952287 and i got better results it lasted for about 15 minutes before it crapped out on me it also turns out that it was artifacting really bad so I'm going to try to update to 10.2 ccc and see how that works i have also uninstalled atitool which makes it a little better but i do have direct x 10 and it won't go any lower i have tried to get 9 but to no avail.

Well you could always try the second hand market instead of keeping up with the joneses. A used $30-50 9600gt or gso would be a good upgrade over your current card and wont have the same driver issues.

ok new idea happened i was looking at another site i said to take out one of your RAM cards and i tried this it worked for like 4 hours before crapping out and now it's back to crapping out every min or so i think though after this i will not be using ATI brands again they are to much of a hassle i want my old card back i used to have the GE6150 by nvidia.

Well for a second it sounded like you got a ram problem there. Bad ram will brick any machine no matter how old or new it is. As for graphics ATI cards are cheap for a reason half the time and you learned first hand why. I like ATI cards but I can't afford to have driver problems when I got home work due or a bill to pay. If you get desperate then once more look on the second hand market you will be surprised what you can pick up on the cheap. I landed a working 8800gtx once for $32.

5750 here, no problems at all. Assuming your ram is good the issue might be to old a CPU on to new of an OS. As the OS gets newer, you need to make sure the hardware stays with it. Not really a "driver problem", just asking to much from it.

5570 and up should provide the same level of performance. If you can spring it the 5750 is where I'd start however.

Wait, a 5000 series is equal to a X1950 Pro?

Either the card is bad, or you have a bad stick of RAM. Just to be sure, run memtest86 to check your RAM out.

You have to sort of guess a bit. x1950pro and the 2600XT were pretty close in performance. I kind of lose it from there, but the 3650 or 4650 were probably the next "equal" cards. The 5570 is faster then even the 4670, so the 5570 is probably even faster then the x1950pro. I was surprised when someone pointed out the speed of the 5570. As long as your resolution is low enough its quite the chip.
