65 degrees seems hot for an idle temp, right?

Hey everyone,
I have scanned this sight many times in the past for answers and have usually been able to find the info I need in the forum posts, however today I need the more direct approach. I have two quad Intel Xeon L5420 @ 2.50GHz. I have used RealTemp and Speccy to get some temp analysis and I havent been real happy with the results. I got 65*C for one CPU and 59*C for the other. :o  At a relatively idle load. I did lay the heatsinks myself, and have since scrapped it off and made sure a second time that I got a neat thin paste to spread the heatload. The temp fluctuates a bit here and there but that is where it stays for the most part. I even took the side cover off to see if expanded airflow would do the trick. No dice. So, am I really off the mark here and totally missing something? Is that idle temp normal? Here are some of my specs

All dropped into a very heavy Chenbro workstation case.

I will admit my building of this machine was a comedy of errors and I had input from maybe one too many people to begin with, so it is a bit of a frankenstein, but I am sticking with it cause of all the time and energy I and others have put into it. In any event, I haven't seen a lot of performance drop out, but after I checked the temps I thought something might be up. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated, thanks again

65c is definitely too hot for idle temp, i would say thats even too high for full load temps.

So, it does appear those are the actual readings. Again this is at idle with the case cover removed. Currently it is about 74*F in my room. All the fans appear to be running and I think they are at high speed right now too. Even the video card is running a little hot at 54*C or so. Performance on the machine has been generally ok, I just have been pretty wary or these high temps

OK after reading the longest post I have EVER seen on Toms LOL
I notice your +12v rail is running really low (8.59 Volts)
I would be concerned about your power supply if that is correct
check volts with Everest Home Edition Free
I am not sure if that is causing problems with temps
but it is something to check out

Ok so I went to Thermaltake's website to look up my heatsink info. I am currently using a CL-P0303 model heatsink. Under the specs for this processors they have listed it shows this info which I was hoping someone here could help me decifer:

MFG. Tech. (nm) 45, TDP(W) 80, Tmax(*C) 67.

Does this mean that these processors are already running at the maximum temperature? I am still checking on the Voltage issue, I am running a Corsair TX750W Power supply - 750 Watt. I thought this would be more than adequate, but perhaps it is not?

read this article closely
turns out Intel themselves says that idle temps on the 45nm manafacturing process
which your xeons are can be way off due to tolerance error
the Digital Temperature Sensor is really only accurate at Max Load Temp
Download Prime95 load tester (free-just Google it)
run it for about 20 mins and look at the load temps
those are the accurate temps and the ones to be concerned about
report back with Load Temps

here is quote from Intel
"According to Intel, if the actual temperature is below 50°C the temperature can’t be trusted at all. With calibration, the slope error can be offset to an extent, but the reported temperatures will never be as accurate as those which are reported by the DTS on 65nm processors. Furthermore, the sensors can sometimes "stick," particularly at lower temperatures, and the worst of these sensors can’t be calibrated properly."

So run a Prime95 max load test for temps and see how those are
You are more than likely fine with your temps at idle the way they are :)
