CPU/motherboard compatability question

Hi everyone,
I have a question about upgrading my current processor to a faster processor. My motherboard accepts these types of processors (I found this on hp.com):
Socket type: AM2+
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
Phenom with Quad Core (Agena) technology (AM2+) up to 9600 (up to 95 watt)
Athlon 64 X2 with Dual Core technology X2 up to 5600+ (up to 89 watt)
Athlon 64 less than 4000+
Sempron less than 3800+

I currently have a AMD Phenom X3 8450, which is 2.1Ghz. What are some much faster processors I can get for this motherboard?

I am using Windows Vista 64bit, an Hp Pavilion a6530f, and am willing to upgrade the motherboard if necessary, if it won't cost me an arm and a leg. Thank you for your time!

Steve

  1. Why do you need a a faster CPU for? What applications do you want to run?

Don't get another AM2+ CPU. You can get a mobo like this one
    MSI 785GTM-E45
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130237

    and any AM3 CPU, say:

    AMD Athlon II X4 640
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103871

    AMD Phenom II X4 955
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103808

You can reuse your DDR2 RAM.
