4870x2 Artifacts - failing?

I have a 4870x2 which has been locking up and displaying various artifacts (e.g.green squares, white dots, straight vertical lines) as of late. I have reseated the cards and checked its temperature and all seem well, this is happening at the BIOS post level so I think I can discount drivers - I believe the card may be on its way out, any thoughts?
It is about 2 years old and is a Gigabyte model.
