I'm kinda new here on toms hardware and I'm trying to build a new gaming computer with a strict budget of 1200 dollars, I've never done this before, but a mate of mine suggest me to build one myself rather than buying a complete built computer off the shelf..

a couple of items I got so far..

a monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

a mouse

a keyboard

an OS windows 7 64 bit home premium

and lastly the speakers.. these are the things that I got so far and is not a part of the 1200 dollars budget, I'm trying to build a computer from scratch so any help would be appreciated.

things that I need:

graphic card/video card : I'm planning to go for a single gtx 460 1gb but maybe in the near future I might consider to sli it if I got enough cash.(but for now a single gtx 460 is enough for me..as long as it's good enough to run civ 5.)

processor/cpu: I need an affordable cpu that won't be bottlenecking the gtx 460 I'm planning on getting. and if this is not asking too much..I hope that it could be a quad core.

PSU : please reccomend me a good psu with a good wattage to support the gtx 460 that I mentioned above and hopefully at an affordable price

motherboard: an affordable motherboard that supports the gtx 460 1gb and whatever the cpu that you guys reccomend me.. is it possible to get a LGA 1366 x58 motherboard with my budget? (is it necessary?)

computer case: suggest me a computer case that's affordable and could fit my build.

memory: suggest me an affordable and good one that could fit my budget.

optical drives: no need to explain.

harddrive: I have no particular brand in mind for the hard drive just reccomend me a good affordable quality hardrive..lol

cooler: A COOLER that's capable enough and affordable enough for this build.

did I forget anything else that's needed to built a gaming pc?

after months of saving money..finally

I decided to build a gaming pc simply because there is a bunch of awesome pc games that aren't available on the xbox 360..

x58 isn't necessary for gaming unless you plan on using more than 3 GPU's.

P55 is being replaced in 2 weeks, so hold off until then.

A XFX or Corsair 650W will be fine for your needs. It'll run SLI GTX 460's.

Memory I like G Skill, though Corsair is also fine. I'd wait until Sandy bridge comes out though to see how overclocking will work to figure out what speed memory you'll need.

If you don't plan on OC, then DDR3 1333 is fine. Try to get Cas 7 RAM.

Case- entirely a personal preference choice. Sub $100 good ones are HAF 922, Antec 300, Antec 900, CM 690II.

HSF- Again, you'll need to wait to see what sort of socket 1155 ones come out in next few weeks, or which current ones will gain 1155 support.

The good (or bad, depends) news is that 20" LCD is only 1600 x 900 native resolution so your project could really be concluded at a far lower price point that $1.2k me thinks ^^

I could change to a higher resolution monitor, but don't worry about the monitor I'll get to it later.

Wait a few week to SB come out. For 1200 bucks, you should think about a better GPU then a GTX 460.

If i was going to build a 1200 PC now, it would be a system like this. ( keep in mind the GPU is over kill for that rez monitor )

If your going to keep that monitor with the 1600X900 rez the GTX 460 would be a grate GPU and allow you to run max settings and eye candy in most games out today, You could drop the PSU to a 650W to sli the GTX 460 latter.

With the GPU in this build you might not need the 850W PSU if you dont think you will sli 2 GTX 570 latter, a 650W would be fine.
