I have no idea what to buy for the power supply and fans or heatsinks I might need.

  1. first, wait 2 weeks for Sandy Bridge. It releases Jan 5, retail Jan 9.

    that said, get a pair of 68xx or 69xx instead of the 5970,

    Overall you'll want 750W PSU 80+ Bronze or better/
