New build question

Hello,

I currently have a P4 3.00 ghz comp that I built a LONG time ago. Needless to say I need to and am looking to build a new system. I've been out of it for so long I'm not sure where to even look or what to get.

I probably need everything but the HDD... I want to start with a good cpu/mobo/mem first. What's a good middle of the road cpu and mobo combo? I do want a nicer mobo to where I can upgrade to a better cpu later.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

a socket 1156/i5 quad core and some quality/name brand DDR3/1600 is usually a nice start. If gaming, add a GTX460 or 2, and you are set for 3-4 years, IMO....

Those are fine. I was actually going to suggest a board like that with the Athlon II 620 or 630. If your budget allows for one of the phenom II 9xx then get it.

Are i5 quad core better performing than the phenom II x4?

I do want to purchase a higher end cpu/mobo for a long term usage...

So far in my research, I found phenom II x6 1055 to be the best bang for the money

If u just game and nothing else a AthlonII X3 would be fine but if u are sure 1055T is for you and since Microcenter is an option i'd hit the
