Can I upgrade my desktop processor

Please tell me can I upgrade/change my desktop processor from Pentium D to core2duo or dual core

My system specifications are:

HP Compaq dx2280 MT, Chipset - i945P/PL/G/GZ, SouthBridge - ICH7/R
Pentium D 925 3.0 ghz
GeForce 8400 GS
2.75 GB DDR2

Despite the low prices of of Core 2 Duo, any investment in a C2D would represent a waste of money. That PC has standards of tech that are now/becoming obselete, and presents no viable upgrade path.

Please consider purchasing/building a new PC with current tech. Even a low budget PC will provide a HUGE improvement, and with careful selection of components, a nice upgrade path.
