Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

Be more specific, also can help us if you give us the model of the PC.

1- Does not you can install Win 7?
2- You have Win 7 installed on you PC but you can't boot.

I'm trying to install from Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Enterprise. I get almost two thirds the way through the installation process and I receive the following error message: could not update the computer’s boot configuration.

I have Dell XPS Gen 2 - Included Pentium 4 processor with Hyper-Threading Technology (3.4 GHz, 800 MHz Bus, Microsoft Windows XP Professional, 400 MHz dual-channel DDR SDRAM (400 MHz), Supports SATA and IDE hard drives, 1 AGP Slot, 4 PCI slots, Sound Blaster Audigy², and Dell Wireless Keyboard and Mouse. Video Card included was ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (AGP x8).

Thanks
Dennis

^Ok, your Win vista was x86 (32 bits) or x64, and you Win 7 is x86 (32bits) or x64.

P.D. Usually, the best way to install win 7 is with a clean installation, back up your files and install from the begining
