Signal "relay" question

Hi, any help appreciated...

My building has free wireless. I don't use it, but my neighbor does. His signal strength is good in the hallway and good if his laptop is by his front door, but once he moves deeper into his apartment the signal is lost.

QUESTION? is there a device he can mount above his door in the hallway that can capture the signal and relay it to his laptop in the apartment either wirelessly or wired?

edit: just walked the building... there are routers by the elevators on "some" of the floors, but not all. I imagine the problem is that he is on a floor without a router. Each floor is separated by a solid foot of concrete. I'll talk to them about putting routers on every floor, but in the meantime I still have the same relay question. This edit is just FYI
