LAN Conection

I have had several computers.... built 3. In neither was I ever able to figure out how to get internet connection through the computer's LAN port. I had to purchase an ethernet card. They all worked fine. However, I cannot imagine a motherboard builder not including a way to connect to the Internet without an after market card. If I am right about using the LAN connection, how to I set it up? When I try the LAN connection I get an error message saying that the computer could not locate the device.

My system:

Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 PRO
CPU: i5-2500K
System: Windows 7 (64-bit) Home Premium

I connect to the internet through a Netgear Router>> Motorola Cable Modem

Have you loaded the lan drivers for your motherboard, normally they come on a cd with the motherboard.

We all have those monents...
I remember I completely forgot to physically install my video card one time, before I put the side panel on my new case. That was a fun day...
