My father has a bunch of Sony 8mm (analog) tapes from the 80's and 90's full of family video. He's afraid of losing all the priceless memories that are on those tapes and would like to convert them to a digital format.
We currently have a working Sony Handycam with a firewire connection plugged into the back of my computer. What we need is a capture card to convert the analog tapes to digital. I've never dealt with capture cards before so my question is; do I need to buy an analog capture card or will any modern day capture card work? Recommendations for cheap and effective capture cards would be immensely appreciated. Thank you!
